1. No purchase necessary. Create your own Magic Contest (the “Contest”) is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada subject to eligibility guidelines below. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. The Contest begins 2:00 p.m. EST on July 28, 2006 and ends at 7:00 p.m. EST on July 30, 2006. This Contest is sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, Inc. (“Wizards”).

2. Eligibility: The Contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada. Employees of Wizards, its affiliates, subsidiaries, franchisees, agents, retailers, advertising and promotion agencies, and fulfillment companies, and their immediate families (parents, children, siblings, spouse) and members of their same households (related or not) are not eligible to participate in the Contest. Participants must be fifteen (15) years of age or younger on July 28, 2006.

3. How to enter: Participants must bring their Contest entry or entries in person to the Cobb Galleria Center, Two Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia on July 28, 2005 between 2:00 p.m. EST and 7:00 p.m. EST. There will be no late registration time. The requirements for each of the four (4) Contest categories are set forth below. Participants may enter more than one (1) category, but participants may only submit one (1) entry per category. All Contest participants will receive a certificate of accomplishment and one (1) Magic Fat Pack. Approximate retail value of each Magic Fat Pack is U.S. $29.99.

Game Design: Alternate Magic Rules Design Challenge
Submit an 8.5” X 11” paper, typed, presenting your original alternate Magic: The Gathering rule. Answer the following questions in your entry:
1. What is the current Magic: The Gathering rule? (Reminder: This is not about a single card but a rule within the game (for example, "You may only play a single land card a turn."))
2. What is the problem that you see with the current rule? (Please be specific)
3. What is your proposed new rule for Magic: The Gathering? (Give details and examples)
4. How does your proposed new rule make Magic: The Gathering a better game in you opinion?
Each participant must make a 5-7 minute oral presentation describing his or her entry to and answering questions from the judges

Fantasy Art: Magic Illustration Creation
Pick your favorite Magic character from any expansion and create your own original illustration. Submissions should not be any larger than 16"x20". There is no minimum size. Original paintings and drawings will be accepted. Digital work must be submitted as a print. The participant must list the illustration’s title and participant’s name, address, phone number, email address and age on a cover sheet submitted along with the illustration.
Each participant must make a 5-7 minute oral presentation describing his or her entry to and answering questions from the judges.

Fiction Writing: New Magic Fantasy World
Submit on 8.5” x 11” paper, typed, a three to five page sample of an original story of a Magic fantasy world and a one (1) page summary of the story plot. On the summary page, participant must list the entry’s title and participant’s name, address, phone number, email address and age.
Each participant must make a 5-7 minute oral presentation describing his or her entry to and answering questions from the judges.

Strategy Articles and Tournament Reports: Reports and Magic Website Article Challenge Submit an original writing discussing one (1) of the three (3) topics listed below. Each entry must be submitted on a USB memory drive or a pc-compatible compact disc and printed on 8.5” x 11” paper. Each entry must be typed and no longer than 1000 words.
1. Strategy article on “the Standard environment”
2. Tournament report of a Junior Super Series challenge
3. General interest article on Magic
Each participant must make a 5-7 minute oral presentation describing his or her entry to and answering questions from the judges.

4. Judging: Wizards employees or designees serving as judges of the Contest will review all valid entries. The judges will use the following criteria: originality and creativity (60%) and clarity of presentation (40%). Entrants will be solely responsible for capturing these criteria within the entries they submit. On July 29, 2006 a Wizards employee or designee serving as a judge of the Contest will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for each of the four (4) categories. All decisions made by Wizards on all matters relating to this Contest are binding. The public will be permitted into the Contest gallery area to view the entries from 8:00 a.m. EST to 6:00 p.m. EST on July 30, 2006. Each category’s winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) may schedule a one-on-one feedback session with that category’s judges. All other entries may schedule feedback sessions as time is available. Winner’s entries are the property of Wizards. Participants (other than 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners) can take their entries home after 6:00 p.m. EST on July 30, 2006. If they do not remove their entries, Wizards will destroy remaining entries after 8:00 p.m. EST on July 30, 2006.

5. Conditions: Entrant acknowledges and agrees that he or she is the sole author of his or her entry, that he or she owns the copyright in and to his or her entry, and that the entry does not infringe any third party rights (including without limitation, copyright, trademark, trade dress rights, or rights of publicity). By entering this Contest, entrant hereby assigns to Wizards all intellectual property rights in and to his or her entry. The entry is the property of Wizards, and upon Wizards’ request, entrant will execute any documents necessary to effectuate such ownership. Wizards and its agencies are not responsible for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to, or alterations of, entry materials, or failure to receive any entry information. Further, Wizards and its agencies are not responsible for late, lost, damaged, destroyed, delayed, illegible or incomplete entries. Wizards reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend, modify or cancel the Contest. By participating in the Contest, entrant agrees to release and hold Wizards, and its respective directors, officers, employees, subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, agencies, licensors and all prize suppliers (“Released Parties”), harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, and actions of any kind in connection with the Contest, or resulting from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize, including, without limitation, personal injuries, death and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy, whether suffered by entrant or a third party. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges. All winners, on behalf of themselves, their executors, heirs and assigns, by acceptance of a prize, agree to release the Released Parties from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses of any kind to persons or property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership or use of the prize or while preparing for, participating in or traveling to and/or from any prize-related activity or otherwise. By accepting a prize, each winner grants Wizards permission to use his/her name and likeness and entry items for advertising and future promotional purposes without notice or additional compensation (except where prohibited by law). This Contest is subject to these Official Rules. Failure to comply with The Official Rules will result in disqualification. An entrant’s entry will be disqualified, at the sole discretion of Wizards, if he or she attempts (a) to enter the Contest through any means other than described in these Official Rules; or (b) to disrupt the Contest, circumvent the terms and conditions of these Official Rules, or in any way tamper with any component of the Contest.

6. Prize and Approximate Retail Value:

1st Place Prize: Four (4) 1st place prize winners (one in each of the four (4) categories) will receive one (1) U.S. $1,000 scholarship, one (1) one-on-one discussion session with the judge(s) of the category in which the prize is awarded, and a ribbon. Approximate retail value of each 1st place prize is U.S. $1,000.00.

2nd Place Prize: Four (4) 2nd place prize winners (one in each of the four (4) categories) will receive educational materials related to each of the four (4) categories, one (1) one-on-one discussion session with the judge(s) of the category in which the prize is awarded, and a ribbon. Approximate retail value of each 2nd place prize is U.S. $20.00.

3rd Place Prize: Four (4) 3rd place prize winners (one in each of the four (4) categories) will receive one (1) one-on-one discussion session with the judge(s) of the category in which the prize is awarded and a ribbon.

At Wizard’s sole discretion, winning entries will be presented on www.magicthegathering.com after the Contest concludes.

Prizes are non-transferable and may not be redeemed for cash. Prizes may not be substituted, except by Wizards at its sole discretion. Taxes on all prizes are solely the responsibility of the winner. The winners must sign an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability and Publicity. If winner is a minor, his or her parent must sign the aforementioned document. Noncompliance with this requirement, or failure to comply with any terms of these Official Rules, will result in a winner’s disqualification.
