The letter D!elver of Secrets is hardly a secret these days, as it has dominated Standard for months and made its presence felt in every format. So with that knowledge, it makes sense that when Delver gets involved in things, we tend to mask any potential excitement, knowing that the bad guy got another weapon. That said, when Delver finally gets some new tricks, and develops a new identity, we once again get to root for the underdog, the rogue of the group.

Adam Prosak can take credit for being just that this week with his new mono-blue take on Delver. I think we all turn our heads to the fact that Delver is involved when we see Talrand, Sky Summoner and Augur of Bolas teaming up to form the Voltron of instants and sorceries that we all secretly enjoy. Snapcaster Mage and Delver have been doing their part forever, but the two new guys are pretty exciting.

Unlike traditional Delver, Adam's list has a higher concentration of "free" spells in the form of Phyrexian mana cards. This allows Talrand to be cast and then immediately followed up by two to three Drakes, giving you instant card advantage. With twenty-four instants and sorceries in the deck, Auger of Bolas, Snapcaster Mage, Delver of Secrets, and Talrand all have plenty of fodder to excel, and then the deck looks to ride tempo from there. I would not be surprised if a lot of variants on the Talrand, Sky Summoner deck begin showing up in competitive play, though, so get out there and tinker!
