ometimes, I get hung up on trying to make a card or interaction work. At the moment, it's Gyre Sage with Prime Speaker Zegana.
Zegana and Gyre Sage both require that you play a lot of creatures, but Standard requires that you have answers to creatures (most importantly Olivia Voldaren) if you're going to play a lot of creatures. This can cause issues both in terms of space and color requirements in a deck.
My latest effort to solve these problems is a BUG deck that uses Sever the Bloodline as its removal spell, which can allow it to take advantage of the huge amounts of mana Gyre Sage can potentially generate in the late game to get extra powerful removal spells.
The creatures focus on keeping me alive, smoothly evolving Gyre Sage, and gumming up the ground while I win with fliers.
I avoid mana Elves despite the utility of accelerating Prime Speaker Zegana because they don't work with Gyre Sage, make me take much more damage from my lands, and make me more vulnerable to sweepers. Instead, the deck is full of high-impact spells.
I've played a handful of matches with it on Magic Online and I've been reasonably happy with the results. I'm not ready to take it to a Grand Prix, but between casting your opponent's spells with Nightveil Specter and creating a huge army with Master Biomancer there's more than enough fun to be had for FNM!
Seriously, give it a try:
