The letter A!n attentive reader named Jay pointed me to Kevin Florio's Golgari deck that won a Standard Grand Prix Trial at Grand Prix Pittsburgh. I'm always on the lookout for something new and exciting, and this is definitely the kind of deck I can get into.

Several months ago, before Return to Ravnica had even come out, I was excited for the future of Standard, where I imagined a world dominated by sacrificing Thragtusk to Disciple of Bolas to down the opponent in life and card advantage.

Then Sphinx's Revelation was printed, and I learned that we wouldn't have to work anywhere near that hard for our life and card advantage, and I forgot all about my old dream.

Well, Kevin didn't, and he earned three byes for his efforts with this spicy midrange concoction.

Sign in Blood provides the bulk of the card draw, but it's supported by Underworld Connections and Disciple of Bolas, who's amazing with the four Desecration Demons in this deck. Speaking of amazing with Desecration Demon—how about Mutilate? This one-sided wrath doesn't even care about cards like Boros Charm that some aggressive decks use to fight Supreme Verdict.

The sideboard has all the best hate—Deathrite Shaman for Reanimator, Duress for control decks, Gloom Surgeon for aggro, and a good mix of other support cards to tune the deck.

My compliments to Kevin, as I like seeing people win with less-common decks, especially if those decks contain Disciple of Bolas.
