ernando Solorzano secured his spot on the Costa Rican national team by winning his WMCQ with the Brad Nelson–designed update of The Aristocrats called Act 2.
Act 2 turns the aggressive midrange strategy of The Aristocrats into much more of a combo/aggro deck. It often tries to win by killing the opponent with Blasphemous Act because of a combination of Boros Reckoners and Blood Artists that it controls. Sometimes the game never gets to that point, because Skirsdag High Priest has already summoned an army of Demons that have won the game, or maybe it was something as simple as a Falkenrath Aristocrat.
Act 2 keeps The Aristocrats shell of Cartel Aristocrat and Falkenrath Aristocrat with Doomed Traveler and Lingering Souls to feed them, and Skirsdag High Priest to beat midrange decks, but it adds Blood Artist to the mix to take advantage of all those creatures getting sacrificed.
The core plan of the main deck is simple, focused, and trying to do something very unfair. But when opponents expect that and can sideboard their decks to remove Blood Artist and Boros Reckoner to prevent any such combos, or when they don't have their own creatures to fuel the Blasphemous Act, Act 2 can shift gears completely during intermission and become an entirely different deck for the second game.
Intangible Virtue and Sorin, Lord of Innistrad join Doomed Traveler and Lingering Souls to play as a white-black token deck, which the spot removal the opponent might have to fight Boros Reckoner can be very bad against.
Outside of Costa Rica, Brad Nelson himself had success with this deck this weekend in Atlanta, and Jasper Boelens won the WMCQ in the Netherlands with the same deck. So, while very new, this deck already has a substantial pedigree of tournament success, making it a serious deck to consider for the next World Magic Cup Qualifiers on April 20–21 .
