The letter T!ypically, porting decks from other formats doesn't work out well. Oftentimes, a deck is successful in a format because it fights on a particular axis that might not work in another format. Fighting on that axis might work in one format but fail in another.

We've seen Death and Taxes ports in Modern before and none have been particularly successful. There are a lot of key elements that are missing in the Modern version, such as Wasteland, Rishadan Port, and Mother of Runes. Plus, Death and Taxes preys on a specific part of the Legacy metagame that doesn't exist in Modern. In short, the deck is not powerful enough to port over and be successful.

However, Deathtongue's deck is unique and adds another layer of depth, which may or may not be responsible for its success. The key to this deck is the interaction between cards like Akroma, Angel of Fury and Epochrasite in combination with Flickerwisp and Cloudshift. If you play a facedown Akroma and then "blink" her with Flickerwisp or Cloudshift, she will come back face up. On turn four, that's a terrifying threat!

Similarly, you can use the same "blink" trick with Epochrasite, but you can also use Æther Vial to build your own Tarmogoyf-sized creature. In theory, you could also Vial in the Akroma, but that might take a while. To top it off, Deathtongue has the same disruption suite that Death and Taxes is famous for, such as Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. I absolutely love the Akroma trend that seems to have taken off in Modern, at least on Magic Online.
