Barcelona's Pro Tour Avacyn Restored was full of plenty of exciting archetypes—some new, and some old favorites as well. One of the major decks to beat going into the tournament was the Red-White Humans deck, and although many players adjusted their decks accordingly, the speed and resiliency of the deck was still enough to carry Pro Tour mainstay Paul Rietzl into the Top 25.
This deck comes out of the gates blisteringly fast, using Champion of the Parish to set up some truly brutal starts. A curve of Champion into Gather the Townsfolk into Silverblade Paladin is a scary opening hand to overcome—especially when you consider the Humans deck has only cast three cards by that point in the game!
This game's power is put into the early game, hopefully before the control decks can cast Terminus from their hand. Rietzl even decided a strong turn-one was so important he branched out into the vampiric Stromkirk Noble to add another four one-drops into his arsenal!
If attacking is exactly what you're interested in doing for this block format, few draws can deal damage as quickly as the ones Rietzl's deck can produce. Take a look at his decklist, and don't miss the deck tech below as he explains his choices! If you're still hungry for more on Rietzl's deck—and others like it—then take a look at the coverage of Pro Tour Avacyn Restored for even more details!
