Sunday Saturday Friday

The letter G!en Con was the site for the first World Magic Cup, which was won by Chinese Taipei. But you can learn all about that over here, thanks to our comprehensive text and video coverage. For the other Magic happenings, read on!

12:00 p.m. - Magic Online Championship Series: Legacy

While the Legacy Championship was going on here in Gen Con, the Magic Online Championship Series held a 353-person Legacy tournament in cyberspace. If "cyberspace" still a thing people say. And the top 32 decklists are right here. Congratulations to jacksad!

11:15 a.m. - Magic Armor

Hey! Look at this cool Magic armor David O'Brien made!

1:30 a.m. - 2012 Legacy Championship Top 8 Decklists

And here are the Top 8 decklists!

Ben Steiner
Semifinalist, 2012 Legacy Championship

5:30 p.m. - Cardhalla: A Sprawling Metropolis

So, Cardhalla. It's getting kind of big. In fact, it's almost too big to process.

Yikes! And we're not done yet!

In an attempt to make sense out of it, here's a piece that caught our eye.

It's like a wedding cake! Made out of cards! Sort of!

2:45 p.m. - Legacy on Magic Online

As though 350 players in the Legacy Championship weren't enough, Magic Online is running a Magic Online Championship Series in Legacy riight now. And they just nudge out the physical tournament with 353 players!

12:30 p.m. - Legacy Championship Players

The Legacy Championship has begun here at Gen Con! And with about 350 players, it might be the biggest Legacy Championship ever! They're going to play nine rounds of Swiss, followed by a Top 8.

11:00 p.m. - Marc Lanigra, 2012 Vintage Champion

Congratulations to Marc Lanigra, the winner of the 2012 Vintage Championship here at Gen Con! Lanigra won a hard-fought match in three games when he was able to keep Blaine Christiansen's Phyrexian Revokers at bay.

In the final game, Lanigra had a great start, with a land, a Black Lotus, and Jace the Mind Sculptor. After Jace's pseudo-Brainstorm gave Lanigra a Mox Jet and a Voltaic Key, he was looking good. But Christiansen had two Phyrexian Revokers to deal with Jace and the Voltaic Key.

One of the Revokers got killed by an Ingot Chewer (prompting Lanigra to announce, "Evoke your Revoker"), but it was replaced by another. A few turns of sparringave Lanigra the time he needed to draw Hurkyl's Recall and cast it at the end of Christiansen's turn. Then on Lanigra's turn, he drew Time Vault, which combines very nicely with the Voltaic Key. One handshake later, Marc Lanigra had won!

7:15 p.m. - Scenes from the Hall

While we wait for the Vintage Championships to reach the Top 8, here are some pictures from the halls of Gen Con (mostly Halls F and G, where Trading Card Games and Magic take place). It's just like being here!

This massive statue of Akroma, Angel of Wrath marks the spot where Magic takes over the hall. It's also a useful meeting spot!

Magic Online tournaments are going on all weekend, too!

This gang of sinister-looking characters are in charge of judging the World Magic Cup.

Even a celebrity like Dave Williams needs some alone time sometimes.

Here, we see a mysterious figure doing something mysterious.

The horns of Nicol Bolas are a symbol of might and power. And style!

5:15 p.m. - Vintage Championships, Round 5

We've had a request for more coverage of the Vintage Championship. Unfortunately, we don't want to start splashing everyone's decklists all over the Internet while the tournament is still going on. Still, that doesn't mean we can't give you an interim report!

Right now, Round 6 has about ten minutes to go. Here were the standings going into the current round:

And if that's not showy enough for you, they just put out the enormous Timetwister someone's going to win:

3:30 p.m. - Friday Night Magic Championship

The winner of the Friday Night Magic Championship was CJ Steele, who met Samy Younis in the finals. Both Steele and Younis play FNM at Top Shelf Games in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which makes them practically the home team here in Indianapolis. Top Shelf Games is going to show off these two handsome displays of every FNM promo card:

Of course, there was also a trophy for the winner:

The winner will receive this painting of alternate art for Timetwister:

1:30 p.m. - Checking in on Cardhalla

There's a lot of Magic being played here at Gen Con. And there's a lot of other Trading Card Games being played, but that's not important right now. The real question is: what do you do with all the cards people don't want anymore?

The answer: Cardhalla. A space has been set aside for people to take all the extra cards and build things. Things like Space Needles!

This is going to go on all weekend, and then the whole thing will get destroyed for charity. We'll check in occasionally to see what's been constructed. People have already done some very impressive work!
