The Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix tournament series is an international circuit of large-scale Qualifier tournaments featuring cash prizes and multiple invitations to Pro TourTM events.

Tournament Format and Schedule

The format for Grand Prix–Bangkok is Lorwyn Block Limited, with day 2 Booster Draft. All DCI Limited -format rules, Magic® Floor Rules, and all subsequent updates will be enforced.

Friday, October 26: Onsite registration is from 2:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
Saturday, October 27: Late registration from 8:30 – 9:30 A.M. Tournament begins at 10:00 A.M. The Top 64 players advance to competition on Sunday.
Sunday, October 28: The Top 64 players begin play at 9:00 A.M.

Divisions
The main tournament at Grand Prix–Bangkok is open to Magic players of all ages.

Head Judge
The Head Judge for Grand Prix–Bangkok will be Mark Brown, Level 4 from Australia.

Tournament Structure
The structure for Grand Prix–Bangkok will be modified Swiss-style (50-minute rounds), with the Top 64 players (or 128 if 800 or more players registered for the main event) advancing to the second day of competition for prizes and invitations.

Amateur Status
A player is considered to have Amateur status if he or she has never participated in a Pro Tour or World Championship event. If a player has ever participated in a Pro Tour or World Championship event, that player no longer has Amateur status, may not participate in those tournaments which are limited to those with amateur status, and is not eligible for Amateur awards at tournaments which offer such awards.

Tournament Divisions and Prizes
Grand Prix–Bangkok will feature the standard main tournament prize schedule, as well as a special Amateur division prize schedule. A player is considered to have Amateur status if he or she has never participated in a Pro Tour or World Championship event. The Amateur prizes will be paid to the highest-finishing amateur players in addition to any winnings those players receive from the main tournament prize schedule. All prizes are in U.S. dollars.

Pro Tour Invitations
The Top 16 players will each win an invitation to Pro Tour–Kuala Lumpur. Grand Prix invitations no longer pass down to previously uninvited players. The top 16 finishers will receive invitations even if one or more of those players already possesses an invitation.

Tournament Byes (Byes are not cumulative throughout the season or year)

Byes will be given to players in the Grand Prix based on the following criteria:

Third-Round Byes

  • Pro Player club level 3 and above.
  • DCI players with a Limited rating of 2000 or higher. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Byes are based on DCI Limited ratings published Oct 24, 2007

Second-Round Byes

  • Pro Player club level 2
  • DCI players with a Limited rating of 1900 or higher. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Byes are based on DCI Limited ratings published Oct 24, 2007

First-Round Byes

  • Pro Player club level 1
  • DCI players with a Limited rating of 1800 or higher. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Byes are based on DCI Limited ratings published Oct 24, 2007

Side Events

Lucky draw—Lucky draw coupon will be issue to every single entry to main and side event. 5 lucky winner will draw every hour through out October, 28 till 5pm.

Friday, October 26

Last Chance Trials - Grand Prix Bangkok (Full List of Trials)
Trials start at 10:00 A.M., 12:00 P.M., 2:00 P.M., and 4:00 P.M. Registration closes 15 minutes prior to each Trial. Maximum 32 players per Trial, single-elimination. The top finisher receives a third-round bye at Grand Prix–Bangkok and one display of Lorwyn boosters. The format is Seal Deck. Cost: THB650

"Super" Friday Night Magic Tournament (Limited Sealed – LorwynBlock)
Event starts at 3:00 P.M. Registration closes 2:45 P.M. Swiss tournament with cut to top-8 single-elimination.
1 Lorwyn Tournament Pack and 2 Lorwyn Boosters per player
Participation Prize – All players each receive 1 October 2007 FNM promo card
1st place wins 1 Free Entry into any Side Event at Grand Prix Bangkok 2007
1st place wins 8 FNM promo cards (Choose from 2006-2007 card pool on site)
2nd place wins 4 FNM promo cards (Choose from 2006-2007 card pool on site)
3rd / 4th place wins 3 FNM promo cards (Choose from 2006-2007 card pool on site)

Sunday, October 28

Pro Tour Qualifier
Registration closes at 9:15 A.M.; play begins at 9:30 A.M. The winner qualifies for Pro Tour – Kuala Lumpur and wins Airfare to Pro Tour – Kuala Lumpur. * The format is Sealed with Booster Draft Final. Cost: THB 750

Junior Bangkok Open (Standard Constructed Format)
Event starts at 12:00 P.M. Registration closes 11:45 A.M. Restricted to players aged 18 and under. Players may be asked to verify their age at the tournament site, and must provide age-confirming identification materials if requested.
Swiss tournament with cut to top-8 single-elimination.
1st place and 2nd place each wins "Magic: the Gathering cards for a year".
Limited to 64 players. Cost THB300

The Femvitational
Registration closes at 1:45 P.M.; play begins at 2:00 P.M. Females only. Constructed Tournament using the Standard-format rules. Winner receives a display of Future Sight. The format is Standard Constructed. Cost: THB300
Legacy Tournament
Registration closes at 11:45 A.M.; play begins at 12:00 P.M. Swiss tournament with cut to top-8 single-elimination.
The top-8 wins "Italian Legend" Boosters
Maximum players – 80. Cost: THB 300

On Demand Tournaments
Eight-person single-elimination, on-demand tournaments will be offered throughout the weekend. Costs: Constructed THB100, Draft THB350, Sealed THB 650.
