2002 Houston Masters Tournament Format Document

Format

  • Booster Draft for Masters - 3 Onslaught packs will be used for drafting.
  • Sealed Deck for Gateway - 1 Onslaught Tournament Deck and 2 Onslaught Boosters
  • Check www.thedci.com for Booster Draft rules.

Round Length

  • Gateway - 60 minute rounds; Masters - untimed rounds
  • Players have 3 minutes to sideboard between games.
  • Although there is no official time limit, stalling and slow play rules will be very strictly enforced during the tournament regardless.

Advancement

  • The tournament is single-elimination.
  • All matches are best two out of three.
  • The top 4 Gateway players will advance to the Masters.

Notes

  • Players are responsible for knowing all DCI rules and high-level tournament rules.
  • Players must bring pen, paper, card sleeves and appropriate counters.

Thursday Schedule
8:00 AM: Gateway Registration
9:00 AM: Gateway Begins

The Gateway will begin as sealed deck, with the final 32 players drafting Onslaught to determine the 4 invitations to the Masters.

Masters Play will begin at 4:00 PM or immediately after the Gateway tournament.

4:00 PM: Masters Draft #1 Begins (4 draft pods)
5:00 PM: Masters Round #1 (32 players)
7:00 PM: Masters Round #2 (16 players)

Friday Schedule
Masters Play will begin immediately following the Pro Tour. Estimated time: 5:30 PM.

5:30 PM: Masters Draft #2 Begins (1 draft pod)
6:30 PM: Masters Round #3 (8 players)

Saturday Schedule
Masters Play will begin immediately following the Pro Tour. Estimated time: 5:30 PM.

5:30 PM: Masters Round #4 (4 players)

Sunday Schedule
Masters Play will begin immediately following the Pro Tour semifinals. Estimated time: 1:00 PM.

1:00 PM: Masters Finals (2 players)
