Come join Wizards of the Coast for our next Pro Tour stop in Nagoya, Japan. This information will help you to prepare now to attend in January. Pro Tour Nagoya will be held January 28-30, 2005.

What to See and Do in Nagoya
The 2005 season's second stop features Rochester Draft, considered by many to be the most skill-tested of all the formats. Brian David-Marshall breaks down the expected field, offering some names to watch. And if you find yourself in Nagoya with some extra time, Eli Kaplan lays out three must-see sights, along with a little more of the local flavor.

 Mandatory Registration

Player registration will occur at the tournament site 4pm-8pm on Thursday, January 27th.

Players must have a signed Consent and Release form to compete at Pro Tour Nagoya. Forms will be available onsite or can be downloaded here. Minors must have a parent or guardian’s signature on these forms.

Bring these forms with you to registration.

At registration, all participants must present one of the following forms of identification upon request:

  • a driver’s license, or
  • a passport, or
  • a copy of their birth certificates and photo IDs (school IDs are acceptable).

 Format and Schedule

Format

  • Rochester Draft
  • 3 Champions of KamigawaTM booster packs will be used for drafting.
  • Competition will consist of 5 Rochester Drafts, each followed by 3 rounds of competition.
  • Check www.thedci.com for Rochester Draft rules.

Round Length

  • 15 Swiss Rounds total, 55 minutes per round
  • Top 8 single-elimination finals have no time limit
  • When time is called, the active player will finish the turn and five additional turns will be taken
  • Stalling and slow play rules will be strictly enforced during the tournament.

Advancement

  • All players may participate in the first 2 drafts and Swiss rounds of Friday’s competition.
  • Players with 12 or more match points after round 6 will advance to draft 3. Draft 3 will take place on Friday immediately following round 6 (See schedule below).
  • The top 8 players after round 15 will advance to Sunday’s top 8 single-elimination finals.

Top 8

  • Top 8 matches will be best 3 of 5
  • The Top 8 players will be seated randomly at the draft table immediately prior to drafting
  • The Top 8 bracket will be determined using this random seating.
  • Where necessary, the standings after the Swiss rounds will still be used to determine final order in the standings.

Notes

  • 48K, REL 5
  • Players are responsible for knowing all DCI rules and high-level tournament rules.
  • Players must bring pen, paper, card sleeves and appropriate counters.

Friday Schedule

8:45 AM Seating for player meeting posted.
9:00 AM Mandatory Player meeting begins.
9:15 AM First draft begins, followed by rounds 1-3.
Second draft, followed by rounds 4-6.
Third draft, followed by round 7

Saturday Schedule

8:45 AM Seating for player meeting posted.
9:00 AM Round 8 begins, followed by round 9.
Fourth draft, followed by rounds 10-12.
Fifth draft, followed by rounds 13-15.

Sunday Schedule

8:30 AM Top 8 players check in at feature match area.
9:00 AM Top 8 Rochester Draft begins followed by single-elimination matches.

Registration for all events begins 30 minutes before the listed start time.

8-person events will be run throughout the weekend.

In addition to the above schedule, other side events with special prizes will be held throughout the weekend—listen for the announcements on site!

Notes:

  • The Last Chance Qualifier will be run at the Nagoya Waterfront Center (2-1-7 Irifune, Minato-ku, Nagoya-shi). The Top 4 finishers will qualify for the Pro Tour.
  • Prizes for each event will be determined by the number of participants, and will take the form of Champions of Kamigawa booster packs, with exceptions as noted below.
    • Betrayers of Kamigawa prerelease events will award Betrayers of Kamigawa booster packs as prizes.
    • Each Grand Prix Trial event will award 20 booster packs to 1st place, 16 packs to 2nd place, 8 packs each to 3-4th place, and 5 packs each to 5-8th place.
    • The Pro Tour—Philadelphia Qualifier will award $500 and an invitation to the Pro Tour to the winner, as well as 32 booster packs to 1st place, 20 packs to 2nd place, 15 packs each to 3-4th place, 8 packs each to 5-6th place, and 5 packs each to 7-8th place.
    • The Pro Tour—Atlanta Qualifier will award $1500 ($500 each) and an invitation to the Pro Tour to the winning team, as well as 96 booster packs to 1st place, 48 packs to 2nd place, and 18 booster packs each to 3-4th place.
    • The winner of the IT Media PSP Tournament will receive as an extra prize a Playstation Portable (Japanese OS model), courtesy of IT Media.
    • The winner of the IT Media Nintendo DS Tournament will receive as an extra prize a Nintendo DS (Japanese OS model), courtesy of IT Media.
    • The winner of the IT Media iPod Tournament will receive as an extra prize an Apple iPod, courtesy of IT Media.
  • Participation in Saturday's Amateur Tournament is limited to players who do not have a lifetime Pro Point.
  • Participation in Saturday's Japan Junior Tournament is limited to junior high school students and younger. Each participant will receive a special Japan Junior Tournament Slith Firewalker premium card, and the winner will receive a special Japan Junior Tournament Royal Assassin premium card. Furthermore, 12 booster packs will be awarded to the winner, 8 booster packs to 2nd place, 4 booster packs each to 3-4th place, and 2 booster packs each to 5-8th place.
  • Participation in Sunday's Femvitational Tournament is limited to female players.
  • Participation in Sunday's His-Her Sealed Tournament is limited to 2-person teams made up of one male and one female player. A special prize for the winning team will be announced on-site.
