The winner of the WIN GOLD Championship tournament will win one of the prizes described below. The championship tournament will take place Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the Magic: The Gathering World Championship Tournament at the Memphis Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN, USA. The format of the tournament will be Shards of Alara Sealed Deck. The winner of the tournament will have the option of winning a $10,000 engraved 14K gold bar or the equivalent in cash. There will be no entry fee.
This championship tournament is sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, Inc., with a principal place of business at 1600 Lind Ave. SW, Suite 400, Renton, WA 98057 ("Sponsor" or "we" or "Wizards").
HOW TO PLAY
Players will need to qualify to play in this championship tournament. Players may qualify in one of two ways:
Four public events at Worlds (run December 11-13, 2008) will be designated as events which will qualify players for the WIN GOLD Championship tournament. The top two finishers at each of these events (top two teams from the 2HG event) will qualify to play in the "Gold" event (10 players).
In November 2008 we will run a number of tournaments in the United States in retail stores (click here for locations). The Top two players from each of these events will be qualified to play in the WIN GOLD Championship tournament. (number of players TBD, dependant on number of events). Stores will be solicited by the Wizards Play Network.
LIMIT: You may only play one (1) time during each of the above described tournaments. From these events, the 10 players from the Worlds qualifier tournaments and the top two finishing players from each of the retail store tournaments with the top overall scores will be selected to participate in the championship tournament.
The winner of the Win GOLD tournament may choose 1 of the following prizes for which he or she is eligible.
Magic Gold estimated value $10,000 (at the date of purchase approximately November 1, 2008)
1 bar of 14 carat gold with the Worlds logo embossed onto it. Prize will be on site, winner must take custody of it on day of winning tournament.
In order to receive this prize package, winner must be U.S. resident, over the age of eighteen. Failure to accept possession of the Gold within thirty (30) days of notification of availability may result in prize forfeiture.
Prize: $10,000 USD.
Limit: One prize per person. Odds of winning prize depend on number of eligible entries received and the skill of the participants. Winner may select either prize so long as the selection is made immediately upon being named a potential winner in the Championship Tournament. Potential winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and publicity and liability release.
No substitution of prize is offered, no transfer of prize to a third party is permitted, and non-cash prizes cannot be redeemed for cash value, except as determined in Wizards' sole discretion. Prize winners are responsible for any applicable federal, state or local taxes on prize; if applicable, winner may receive an IRS Form 1099 for tax for the value of the prize. The potential winner is responsible for ensuring that (s)he complies with all the applicable tax laws and filing requirements.
By participating, all participants, on behalf of themselves, their executors, heirs and assigns, agree to release Wizards and its parent company, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, employees and assigns (collectively, "Released Parties") from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses of any kind to persons or property which may be sustained in connection with the conduct of the tournament, the administration of this tournament, any event or condition caused by something beyond the control of Sponsor that may disrupt or corrupt the tournaments described herein, any technical malfunction or problem that occurs during the tournaments, the receipt, ownership or use of a prize, or any printing or typographical error in any material associated with the tournaments. Under no circumstances will Wizards or its parent company or affiliates be liable for punitive, incidental, consequential, or any other damages.
All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any participant from the tournaments if, in Sponsor's sole discretion, it reasonably believes that a participant has attempted to undermine the legitimate operation of the tournaments by cheating, deception, or other unfair playing practices or annoys, abuses, threatens or harasses any other participants, viewers, or the Sponsor.
By accepting the prize, participant agrees to allow Sponsor and its agencies, to use his or her name and/or likeness for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
If for any reason the tournaments are not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the tournaments, Wizards reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the tournaments. Wizards further reserves the right to disqualify any participant who tampers with any part of the tournaments. Any attempt by a participant to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the tournaments is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such participant to the fullest extent of the applicable law.
This promotion shall be governed by, subject to, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington, excluding all conflict of law rules. If any provision(s) of these rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect.
