Gateway Tournaments

Gateway Tournaments are open to any player, and can be organized by any WPN Gateway level retail location. (For more information about the WPN and levels, please refer to the WPN page.)

There will be four seasons of Gateway Tournaments in 2011, held during the following date ranges: March 22 – May 5, June 13 – July 3, August 15 – September 11, and October 17 – October 30. Locations may run only one Gateway Tournament during each round. Gateway Tournaments will be run using either the Standard or Extended format, are Rules Enforcement Level: Regular, and have a Planeswalker Points multiplier of 1x. (For more information about formats, rules enforcement levels and K Value, please refer to the DCI Tournament Rules.) Organizers and other event staff are permitted to play in Gateway Tournaments. Please refer to the above links for event information for each qualifier round.

Winners of a Gateway Tournament will earn a 1-round bye at Regional Tournaments (see below). Byes are not cumulative; if a player wins more than one Gateway Qualifier, he or she will receive only one 1-round bye. However, byes are not "used up"—a player with a bye from a Gateway Tournament may play in more than one Regional Tournament and have a 1-round bye at each. Byes do not pass down under any circumstance; if the winner of a Gateway Tournament already has a bye, the second-place finisher does not then receive a bye. Additional prizes such as product or promotional cards may be offered; check with your local organizer for details.

Regional Tournaments

There are two types of Regional Tournaments: Regular and Special. All Regional Tournaments will take place between November 14 and December 4. Regional Tournaments are run using either the Standard or Modern format, are Rules Enforcement Level: Competitive, have a Planeswalker Point Multiplier of 2x, and require a certified DCI judge as head judge.
