A Bit of Chaos
Giants of Legend Preview 5

The chaos of my week forces this preview to be shorter than I'd like. We'll try to pick up the pace next week. For now, let's take a peek at two non-rare blokes from the Chaotic factions.

The Tanarukk are descended from demons that mated with orcs. In the Forgotten Realms, they erupted out of Hellgate Keep to infest Northern Faerun. Outside the Forgotten Realms (in my home D&D campaign, for example), they serve admirably as demonic orcish barbarians.

You can find details on the Tanarukk in Races of Faerun.

With a touch of Fire Resistance and Spell Resistance, this common mini serves well as a mid-level grunt that can survive for a while, at least, while screening your more valuable creatures.

Deepshadow Elf

One of the first metal minis I ever bought, 30 years ago, was a ranger from Grenadier. A deep hood and a mask covered his features. Over the years, that hooded ranger got more use than all my other minis, because players of many different types of characters had no problem grabbing it and projecting their character's personality onto its hooded form.

That's part of the reason why I like the Deepshadow Elf. For players who want a bit of mystery in their PC, he's perfect. Could he be a rogue? A ranger? An elf wizard? Why, yes he could.

The Deepshadow Elf has a decent ranged attack but his best attributes are high Speed and an excellent sneak attack. This uncommon mini makes a great second-line fighter, firing arrows until he can dart forward onto someone's flank and inflict sneak attack damage.
